Andover residents can expect a drone show, a live concert, historical reenactors and an artisan fair when the town throws RevFest 250 on Saturday, Oct. 3, a daylong celebration marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The Andover Celebrates America 250 Committee meets Thursday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Select Board Room, Town Offices, 3rd Floor, 36 Bartlet St., to finalize logistics for the event. The meeting agenda lists seven planning areas the committee will tackle: a rain date contingency plan, the artisan fair and reenactors, food and beverage, entertainment and programming, the drone show, the concert and sponsorships.

The meeting is open to the public.

Committee members are dividing the work. M. Tubinis and M. Emerson are leading the artisan fair and reenactors. J. Robbins and A. Ormond are handling food and beverage. Chris Klein, B. Pennington and G. Ralston are coordinating entertainment and programming. RJ Johnson is managing the drone show, and A. Ormond is also overseeing the concert. The committee will also receive a marketing and communications update and may vote on related initiatives.

Klein, a longtime Andover resident and committee member, spoke in May about why the celebration matters. "After living in Andover for many of the last 40 years, I only learned last year that Andover has a memorial dedicated to the 22 Andover residents who died in service during the Revolutionary War," Klein told Andover News ahead of the Memorial Day re-dedication ceremony that launched the celebration series.

That May 25 ceremony at Bicentennial Park, 40 Central St., honored 22 Andover men who died in the Revolution at locations including Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and Ticonderoga. It was co-sponsored by the Andover Center for History & Culture.

The committee, chaired by Susan McCready, was formally established on April 8 to plan events commemorating the nation's semiquincentennial. According to the town's announcement, the group's mission includes fostering town-wide participation and highlighting Andover's role during the Revolutionary War.
