Andover police made two arrests during the week of July 21–28, including a drunken-driving charge and a warrant pickup at a local hotel, according to the department's weekly log published Wednesday, July 29, by reporter Dave Copeland.
A 28-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Monday, July 27, and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and additional motor vehicle violations. The log does not specify where the stop occurred.
A day earlier, on Sunday, July 26, officers arrested a 34-year-old Haverhill woman on an outstanding warrant at the DoubleTree Hotel on River Road. A registered guest gave police access to the hotel room before officers took the woman into custody, according to a separate public safety notebook covering that weekend.
The OUI arrest fits a broader pattern: Andover police logged 11 drunken-driving arrests in the first quarter of 2026, up from seven in the same period of 2025, according to department statistics released earlier this year.
Rollover crash sends one to hospital
The week's most serious call came Thursday, July 23, at 7:09 p.m., when police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle rollover at North Main and Harding streets. Firefighters used extrication tools to free at least one occupant, and one patient was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, according to the department's Thursday notebook. The crash temporarily closed the intersection.
Road rage, erratic drivers, and vandalism
On Friday, July 24, at 11:06 a.m., a caller reported road rage on North Main Street. The other driver had tailgated the caller, made an obscene gesture, and stopped abruptly in the roadway before driving off.
Saturday, July 25, brought two notable calls. At 6:03 p.m., police investigated vandalism and property damage on Regis Road. Then at 8:39 p.m., a caller on Lowell Street reported a driver who crossed into oncoming traffic before correcting course.
On Sunday, July 26, at 3:44 p.m., a dark gray pickup truck was reported driving erratically on Chandler Road, running over road signs and heading toward Forest Street. Police notified neighboring agencies and searched the area.
Other calls
The week also included two fraud reports on Tuesday, July 21 — a suspected fraudulent vehicle sale on Shattuck Road and an identity scam on Mayflower Road — along with illegal dumping on Reservation Road on Thursday, July 23.
A loud house party on River Road drew police twice on Monday, July 27: the homeowner agreed to lower the volume after the first visit at 8:16 p.m., and officers dispersed remaining guests at 11:02 p.m.
Andover police do not release names of people charged with misdemeanors. Both individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No arraignment dates have been announced.
