The Andover School Committee will vote Thursday, Aug. 6, on filling the district's top finance job and a student support role at Andover High School, two hires that come as the district manages a $111.5 million budget.

The committee meets at 6 p.m. at the School Administration Building, 30 Whittier Court. According to the meeting agenda, the panel will first enter executive session to discuss negotiating strategy for the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Administration position before reconvening in open session around 6:15 p.m. to vote.

The finance post opened when Keith Taverna, who held the role since joining Andover Public Schools in June 2022, was promoted to permanent superintendent effective July 1. In that position, Taverna oversaw district finance, human resources, transportation, food services, custodial services and school safety for a district whose operating budget exceeds $110 million.

The committee appointed Taverna unanimously on June 15 after a search that drew 36 applicants, the Andover Townsman reported. Vice Chair Lauren Diffenbach said at the June 15 meeting: "He's happy to be here and it shows."

The agenda does not name the recommended candidates for either position, and no salary figures have been made public.

The second vote covers an AHS Student Support Specialist, a position whose specific duties and funding source have not been detailed in public documents.

After the votes, the five-member committee — Chair Shauna Murray, Vice Chair Diffenbach, Dave Crow, Christopher Shepley and Jake Tamarkin — will shift to a workshop session. That session includes subcommittee updates on AHS Futures, Finance and Policy, plus district updates on community outreach, redistricting and personnel.

Redistricting remains contentious. Three Andover residents filed a lawsuit challenging the committee's 2025 decision to redraw school boundaries, alleging inaccurate data and Open Meeting Law violations. The suit's current status could not be confirmed from public records.

The workshop will also introduce Superintendent Taverna's NSIP Coach. The New Superintendent Induction Program is a three-year initiative run by the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents that supports new leaders in their first years on the job. The committee will also review its 2026-27 meeting schedule.

The meeting will be broadcast on Comcast Channel 99 and Verizon Channel 43, and streamed at andovertv.org. The workshop portion does not include a public comment period.
