Brooks School football improved to 4-0 with a win at Middlesex School on Saturday, Oct. 17, extending an unbeaten start under first-year head coach Spencer Emerson.

The North Andover school reported a 41-20 victory, avenging last season’s 41-8 loss to Middlesex. MaxPreps lists the result as 40-21.

Using the school’s reported score, Brooks has outscored its first four opponents 147-40, recording two shutouts. The team opened with three consecutive victories for the first time since 2014 before adding Saturday’s win.

Brooks began the season with a 42-0 victory over Roxbury Latin on Sept. 26, held off Thayer Academy 21-20 on Oct. 3 and beat Groton School 43-0 on Oct. 10.

Captain Liam Corman has been central to the offense. He rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns against Roxbury Latin, then added 141 yards and two scores at Thayer, according to the school’s game reports.

Quarterback Harrison Kucharski connected with Jacob Abelard for a 39-yard touchdown against Thayer. Brooks needed a final defensive stand to preserve that victory: after Thayer scored with no time remaining, Daniel Hong pressured the quarterback into an incomplete pass on the potential winning two-point conversion.

Against Groton, Kucharski threw two touchdown passes. Sebastian Walsh, Harry Nwobi and Hong led the defense, while Easton Yu recorded his first career interception.

Emerson inherited a team that finished 3-5 last fall. Brooks announced his hiring April 1, and he officially started July 1. He previously led Falmouth High School in Maine to an 11-0 record and its first state championship in 2024.

Before the season, Emerson said his focus extended beyond immediate results.

“This season is about establishing who we are and what Brooks Football is going to represent moving forward,” he said in the school’s Sept. 10 athletics preview.

The program’s 2014 team finished 7-2 and won the Sean Brennan New England Championship Bowl, beating Westminster School 31-12.

Brooks next hosts Noble & Greenough on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3:30 p.m. at Anna K. Trustey Memorial Field, according to the school’s schedule.
