Merrimack College men's basketball landed the biggest recruit in program history on Wednesday, July 29, when four-star shooting guard Mekhi Robertson committed to the Warriors for the Class of 2027.

It's a program first.

Robertson, a 6-foot-4 guard from South Pemberton, N.J., is ranked No. 137 nationally by 247Sports, making him the first nationally ranked recruit ever to choose Merrimack. He picked the North Andover program over Power Five suitors including West Virginia, N.C. State, Oklahoma State and Mississippi State.

"I chose Merrimack because it felt like home the moment I stepped on campus," Robertson told 247Sports.

Robertson said his decision came down to the relationship he built with head coach Joe Gallo and the coaching staff, citing the success of previous guards developed at Merrimack as proof the program could elevate his game.

The commitment caps a breakout stretch for Gallo's program. In 2025-26, the Warriors went 23-11 overall and 17-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, capturing their first-ever MAAC regular season championship. Merrimack went 11-0 at home at Lawler Arena for the first time since 1990-91 and reached the MAAC Tournament final before falling to Siena 64-54. Gallo earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors and signed a 10-year contract extension in March 2025.

That on-court rise is now translating to the recruiting trail. Robertson's ranking slots him between Saint Louis commit Jimmy McKinney (No. 136) and Colorado State commit Luke Howery (No. 138), according to The Mack Report. Those are the caliber of programs that typically land prospects at this level.

Robertson put up 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game across six games at the Peach Invitational, shooting 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. In Nike EYBL play, he averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 42.2 percent overall and 33.8 percent from deep.

Gallo, a Merrimack alum from the Class of 2004, has compiled a 184-124 record in 10 seasons as head coach. His staff has developed multiple All-Americans and All-Conference guards across the program's transition from Division II to Division I.

Robertson will spend the 2026-27 prep season at The Master's Academy International in Stow, West Virginia, before arriving on the North Andover campus for the 2027-28 season.
