Every North Andover police officer began wearing an activated body camera Monday, Sept. 21, after the department launched its body-worn camera program.

The North Andover Police Department announced the rollout on its Facebook page Sunday, Sept. 20, saying officers would be equipped starting the following day.

Officials framed the cameras as part of an ongoing push toward greater openness and accountability in how the department operates, according to Patch. The department said the new equipment gives both officers and residents an added tool while building public confidence in the force.

The announcement did not name the camera vendor, specify how many officers received equipment, or detail the department's footage retention policy. It also did not say whether a written policy governing when officers must activate cameras has been posted publicly.

No individual spokesperson or department leader was named in the announcement.

North Andover residents with questions about the program can contact the police department at 1475 Osgood St. or by calling (978) 683-3168.
