A man in his 60s suffered serious crush injuries on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 5, after being pinned between two vehicles at West Parish Cemetery near the Reservation Road entrance, according to Andover News, which compiled the incident from public safety radio transmissions.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical crews responded to the cemetery at 129 Reservation Road. Dispatchers reported the man had been freed from between the vehicles before first responders arrived but had sustained crush injuries to his torso and lower extremities.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before transporting him to Lawrence General Hospital.

His condition has not been publicly updated.

Detectives responded to document the scene. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and conducted an on-site investigation, indicating the incident is being treated as a workplace accident. The employer and the nature of the work being performed have not been identified publicly.

Bicyclist struck at Abbott and Phillips streets

On Wednesday evening, Aug. 5, police and firefighters responded to the intersection of Abbott and Phillips streets after a vehicle struck a bicyclist.

Responders found both the driver and the bicyclist out of their vehicles and ambulatory. The bicyclist was transported to Lawrence General Hospital. Detectives were called to photograph the crash scene as officers investigated.

Moped flees traffic stop onto I-93

Wednesday morning, Aug. 5, an attempted traffic stop ended when the operator of a moped fled onto Interstate 93 northbound. The moped had no visible license plate, and neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Officers terminated the pursuit for safety reasons as the moped continued toward Lawrence. Nearby police departments were notified of the vehicle's description and direction of travel.

Hit-and-run driver returns to Essex Street lot

Police also investigated a hit-and-run on Wednesday, Aug. 5, after a vehicle struck a parked car in an Essex Street parking lot. A witness provided a partial registration number. The driver later returned to the scene after realizing they should have stopped, and police completed a crash report.
