A helicopter will drop 1,000 pink golf balls over Sarkisian Farms Driving Range on Sunday, Sept. 13, and one of them could be worth $5,000.

The third annual Pink Golf Ball Drop benefits the Colleen E. Ritzer Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships to future teachers and leaders. The event runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the farm, 159 Chandler Road. The drop itself is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m.

Pink was Ritzer's favorite color. A lifelong Andover resident and 2007 Andover High School graduate, Ritzer was killed in 2013 while working as a math teacher at Danvers High School. Her parents, Peggie and Tom Ritzer, established the memorial fund the following year.

Since 2014, the fund has awarded nearly $800,000 in scholarships to 147 future teachers and leaders, according to Andover News.

"Colleen was a very positive person, and we try very hard to carry that on for her," Tom Ritzer told WCVB in May. "It's the least we can do."

Each numbered golf ball costs $20, or three for $50. A maximum of 1,000 will be sold. The ball that lands in a designated hole, or closest to it, wins the $5,000 cash prize. If multiple balls land in the hole, the prize is split equally. Buyers do not need to attend to win.

DJ Ted Teichert will emcee. Anyone 18 or older who attends can enter a free drawing for four Boston Red Sox tickets. The winner must be present at approximately 2:15 p.m. Richardson's ice cream and Richie's slush will be available on-site.

If weather or another issue cancels the helicopter drop, one ball will be drawn at random for the $5,000 prize. Participants must be 18 or older and U.S. citizens. Fund board members, sponsors, their immediate families and their employees are not eligible.
