The Andover School Committee will hold a special virtual meeting Monday, Aug. 10, at noon with a single item on the agenda: approving the contract for the district's next Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration.

The hire will fill the vacancy created when Keith Taverna left the finance chief role to become permanent superintendent effective July 1. Taverna had overseen district finance, human resources, transportation, food services, custodial services and school safety since joining Andover Public Schools in June 2022.

The position carries broad authority over a $111.5 million operating budget. According to the district's Finance and Administration page, the role manages budget development, payroll, purchasing, grant management and transportation, while providing guidance on labor negotiations and state and federal reporting. The human resources director, transportation coordinator and food service director all report directly to the assistant superintendent.

The candidate's name has not been released.

Monday's session is a focused special meeting, separate from the committee's regular Aug. 6 session. The posted agenda lists only the contract vote and adjournment.

The five-member committee, chaired by Shauna Murray with Vice Chair Lauren Diffenbach, Dave Crow, Christopher Shepley and Jake Tamarkin, unanimously appointed Taverna as superintendent on June 15 after a search that drew 36 applicants. "He's happy to be here and it shows," Diffenbach said at the June 15 meeting, according to the Andover Townsman.

Taverna signed a three-year superintendent contract worth $235,000 in year one, according to the Andover Townsman. His salary rises to $249,312 by fiscal 2029.
