Andover voters have until 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, to cast an early ballot at Town Offices, 36 Bartlet St., before the Tuesday, Sept. 1, state primary.
The primary features a crowded six-candidate Democratic race for the 6th Congressional District seat, with two Andover residents on the ballot: Dan Koh of 21 Windemere Drive and Tram Nguyen of 1 Brookfield Road. They are competing against Bethany Andres-Beck of Middleton, John Beccia of Lynnfield, Jamie Belsito of Topsfield and Mariah Lancaster of Salem for the party's nomination.
The seat opened after Rep. Seth Moulton announced his run for U.S. Senate. The Democratic primary winner will face Republican Micah Jones, a U.S. Army veteran and lawyer from Essex, in the Nov. 3 general election, according to the Andover Townsman.
The district covers most of Essex County and eight towns in Middlesex County.
How to vote
Early voting at 36 Bartlet St. runs 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 28, and is open to all Andover precincts, according to Andover News.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Sept. 1, polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at three locations:
- Precincts 1 and 3: Cormier Youth Center, Whittier Court
- Precincts 4, 4A, 5 and 6: Wood Hill Middle School, High Plain Road
- Precincts 2, 7, 8, 9 and 10: Richard J. Collins Field House, Andover High School, Shawsheen Road
Mail-in ballots
The deadline to request a mail-in ballot passed Tuesday, Aug. 25. Secretary of State Bill Galvin said Friday, Aug. 28, that more than 100,000 mail-in ballots statewide had not been returned and urged voters to use drop boxes instead of mailing them.
"We strongly recommend, if they are going to vote by mail, do not mail the ballot. It's too late," Galvin said at a news conference reported by CBS News Boston.
Mail-in ballots must reach local election officials by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. They cannot be dropped off at polling locations on Election Day. A secure drop box is available at 36 Bartlet St.
What else is on the ballot
Beyond the congressional race, Andover Democrats will see state Sen. Barry Finegold running for re-nomination in the Second Essex and Middlesex District. Connor Murray of Andover is on the Democratic ballot for the 18th Essex state representative seat.
Town Clerk Austin Simko posted a notice that early voting and mail-in ballots received before 4:30 p.m. Friday will be tabulated at a Central Tabulation Facility in the Select Board Conference Room, third floor, 36 Bartlet St., starting at 9 a.m. on Election Day. The tabulation is open to the public.
