Emily Makrez wants to teach North Andover residents how to find food growing wild in their own backyards.

Makrez, owner of Dracut-based F-Word Farm, will lead a free foraging program at Stevens Memorial Library on Thursday, July 30, from 7 to 8 p.m., according to the library. The event takes place in the Community Meeting Room at 345 Main St., North Andover.

The farm's name stands for Farming, Foraging, and Fermenting. Makrez describes it as an "Earth centered" operation that practices organic, no-till farming focused on building ecosystems and soil. She produces small-batch probiotic vinegars from locally grown and foraged ingredients, including upcycled produce from area businesses.

Makrez regularly teaches foraging, fermentation, and farming at libraries, garden clubs, and senior centers across the region. On her website, she writes: "Sharing knowledge and the ability to preserve your own food and make your own probiotics is my happiest place."

The event is free.

Registration is required. As of Wednesday, July 29, 20 of 30 spots remained open, according to the library's event calendar. Residents can sign up through that page or call the library at 978-688-9505.

The program is open to adults and is sponsored by the Friends of the Library as part of the "Summer at the Stevens" initiative, which carries the 2026 summer reading theme "Plant A Seed, Read."
