Tara Lynn Masih, an author who lived in Andover for 30 years, returns to town Nov. 7 to trace the community's role in the World War II effort.

Masih's talk at the Andover Center for History & Culture, 97 Main St., starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Andover News reported. The program uses historical facts and photographs to show how rural New England, and Andover in particular, contributed to the war.

Masih will also discuss Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the Manhattan Project location known as "The Secret City." A question-and-answer session follows.

The first part of Masih's latest historical novel, "The Silent Women," is set in Andover during World War II. She researched the book at the history center. According to the center, many of the Andover locations featured in the novel still remain.

The novel follows a character who moves from the Oklahoma dust bowl to a rural New England town and then to the classified facility at Oak Ridge, according to the book's description. The Atomic Heritage Foundation has recommended the book, according to Masih's website.

Items from Masih's collection and the history center's collection will be on display. A limited number of copies of the novel will be available for sale. Masih's website notes that book purchases are cash or check only.
