Lily Heckman scored for Andover as the Golden Warriors finished in a 1-1 draw with Billerica on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Billerica Memorial High School.
Olivia Manne scored for the hosts, according to Valley Sports Daily’s match report by Bill Gilman. The teams remained level through the end of the 80-minute contest.
Andover entered the match ranked No. 23 in the MIAA Division 1 power rankings, which listed the Warriors at 5-2-1. Those rankings included scores entered into Arbiter by 4 a.m. Oct. 6, before the Billerica game.
The ranking placed Andover within the top-32 qualification range for the state tournament. Its position after the draw will depend on subsequent results and updated power ratings.
The MIAA’s ratings combine a team’s average scoring margin, capped at three goals per game, with its opponents’ ratings. Teams outside the top 32 can qualify for a preliminary-round game with a record of .500 or better.
Other Merrimack Valley Conference teams also appeared in the Oct. 6 Division 1 rankings. Central Catholic was No. 11 with a listed record of 7-0, North Andover was No. 25 at 4-3-2, and Chelmsford was No. 26 at 5-1-2.
Billerica competes in Division 2 for the state tournament. Although the schools pursue berths in separate brackets, their meeting contributes to each team’s power rating.
