A Lawrence man allegedly caused a three-vehicle crash on Route 93 in Andover on Tuesday, Sept. 15, then tried to run from the scene, Massachusetts State Police said.
Evan Payne, 29, faces charges of operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, marked lane violations and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
The crash happened on Route 93 North near Dascomb Road at about 6:45 a.m., according to State Police, as Andover Patch first reported. An investigation indicated Payne was changing lanes when his vehicle struck both a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck.
Two lanes were closed for more than an hour, backing up traffic for miles during the height of the morning commute, State Police and Boston 25 News reported.
After the collision, Payne attempted to flee on foot, State Police said.
Patrols quickly located him.
Payne was released on bail on Sept. 15, according to State Police. No information about injuries to the occupants of the tractor-trailer or pickup truck appeared in any public account of the crash.
The charges are allegations. Payne has not entered a plea as of publication.
His arraignment at Lawrence District Court is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16.
