The Andover High football program raised approximately $47,000 at its first-ever Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament on July 27 at Andover Country Club, with the money earmarked for youth scholarships and high school equipment.

The event drew 144 golfers, more than 100 of them former Golden Warriors players spanning decades. State Sen. Barry Finegold, a 1989 AHS graduate and former lineman who helped organize the tournament alongside head coach Jay Fielding, said the day exceeded expectations.

"It was truly was amazing," Finegold told the Andover Townsman. "We had alums that played from the 1970s, 80s, 90s and recently. We want to grow our youth program, which is on the upswing, and add some help to the high school, too."

Proceeds will fund scholarships for families who cannot afford the Andover Junior Football League and cover equipment needs at the varsity level. The AJFL has nearly doubled its participation in recent years after a difficult stretch.

Glenn Verrette, a two-way star who helped lead Andover High to back-to-back state championships in 1974 and 1975, received the Humanitarian Award at the post-round dinner. Verrette also coached at Andover High and raised money for Lovejoy Field over the years. Finegold said Verrette and Carmen Scarpa were the first two people he called about launching the tournament.

Fielding, entering his second season as head coach, said Verrette helped gather members of both title teams for an on-field recognition at the end of the 2025 season and called him "a huge ambassador for Andover High football."

Current standout Jackson Fuller also addressed the dinner crowd. The defensive end holds six Division I offers and plans to do a post-graduate year before playing college football.

On the course, the team of Buddy Farnham, Mark Farnham, Matt Whippen and Joel Hanley took top honors at 15-under par.

Fielding said the goal is to make the tournament an annual tradition that strengthens the pipeline between the AJFL, the high school program and the alumni network.

The Golden Warriors have confirmed road games at Methuen on Oct. 2 and at Lawrence on Oct. 8 before the Thanksgiving rivalry at North Andover on Nov. 26.
