If you've ever stopped to admire a sunrise at an Andover trail or spotted wildlife on an AVIS reservation, it might be worth bringing your camera next time.

The Andover Village Improvement Society (AVIS) has opened its third annual photo contest, inviting photographers of all skill levels to capture the beauty of the town's 30-plus reservations. This year's contest adds two new categories — Patterns in Nature and AVIS in Winter — with prizes of up to $75.

Submissions open Nov. 15 and run through Jan. 31, 2027. Contestants do not have to live in Andover to enter.

"Our hope is that people's photos will not only stimulate interest in our open spaces but remind them of the need to protect them," AVIS President Annie Gilbert said.

Returning categories include Landscape & Rivers, Plants & Flowers, Birds, Bees & Wildlife, Black & White, and Youth Perspective for photographers ages 7-15.

The grand prize winner will receive $75, category winners earn $50, and runners-up take home $25. Entry is $15 per photo (up to three entries), while youth submissions are free.

Photos must be taken at an AVIS reservation on or after Jan. 1, 2021. Winning images will be displayed at the Robb Center and Memorial Hall Library next spring.

Founded in 1894, AVIS manages more than 1,200 acres of open space across Andover.
