Kerry Cashman, a nine-year assistant athletic director at Andover High School, will lead the Golden Warriors' athletics program as interim director for the 2026-27 school year, stepping in after the departure of athletic director Wayne Puglis.

Cashman brings deep roots in the building. Beyond her administrative work, she serves as an assistant coach for the girls varsity basketball team and heads both the unified basketball and unified track programs. Before arriving at AHS, she was a four-year starter on the Boston University women's basketball team, coached at UMass Lowell and UNH, and ran the athletic department at Bradford Christian Academy.

The appointment means student-athletes will report to a new top administrator from day one of fall sports. No reason was given for Puglis's departure, and the district has not announced a search for a permanent replacement. The role is designated interim for this school year only.

Cashman has been vocal about her philosophy for AHS athletics. In a June 11 piece in the student newspaper Andoverview, she told students weighing college recruitment: "You're a student athlete, but you're a student first."

That same month, she told Andoverview that girls' sports at AHS have surged in recent years, noting the school's female athletes have won more team championships than their male counterparts. She said fan attendance at girls' games has not matched that success.

Cashman takes over as fall preseason practices begin across the Merrimack Valley Conference.
