Fourteen downtown Andover restaurants faced health inspections in June, and while some passed with a spotless record, others had real work to do — including a couple that turned things around fast.
Akita Ramen, Caffè Nero, Domino's Pizza, Karma, Matchplay Golf & Sports Lounge, Teatone, and Thai Sweet Basil all came through every visit without a single violation.
Inspectors found pasta ingredients stored above safe temperature, an 11-day-old bruschetta topping, a scoop resting handle-down in bulk bread crumbs, utensils soaking in lukewarm water, and a missing allergen poster. By the June 23 follow-up, every issue was resolved.
Shoyu Restaurant & Bar was cited for a handwashing sink blocked by buckets, sushi coolers running too warm, raw chicken stored above beef skewers, and a safety log untouched since March. Like 34 Park, it passed its follow-up clean.
At the Thai-Vietnamese fusion spot, which opened this January, the inspector found the person in charge "unable to demonstrate they are performing their duties as outlined in the food code" and ordered employee retraining. No follow-up result has been published yet.
Casa Blanca was cited for raw fish and eggs stored improperly and a container of tomatillos left on the walk-in floor. JP Licks was flagged for a too-warm cooler, what appeared to be mouse droppings behind a storage rack, and missing safety documentation. Kokoro Craft Udon had a rear door gap large enough to let sunlight through, plus utensils soaking in lukewarm water. None of the three has a published follow-up yet.
The Andover Health Division publishes inspection reports monthly through Andover News.
