A 27-year-old man is dead after a rollover crash on Interstate 495 northbound in Methuen on Saturday, July 11, Massachusetts State Police said.

Troopers from the State Police Andover barracks responded to the scene around 8:50 p.m., according to State Police. The driver had sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker's office confirmed the fatality in a statement Sunday, July 12. Tucker's office said the driver's identity will be released after his family has been notified.

The on-ramp from Route 110 to I-495 northbound was temporarily closed while crews worked the scene Saturday night.

The crash is under investigation by the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

State Police have not disclosed what caused the crash. No other vehicles or victims were mentioned in any official statement. The victim's name, vehicle type, and a preliminary cause have not been released.
