One lucky audience member will spin a roulette wheel loaded with six dark and gothic Disney films on Friday, Sept. 25, and wherever it lands determines what the crowd watches that night at the North Andover Historical Society's Stevens Center.
The "Movie Roulette: Dark Disney with VCR2" event runs 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 800 Massachusetts Ave. in North Andover's Old Center. It's the latest installment in a recurring partnership between the historical society and VCR2, the Salem-based organizers of the Salem Horror Film Festival. The format debuted in July with a sci-fi edition featuring classic Universal monster movies, the Andover Townsman reported.
Tickets are available on the society's website. Standard NAHS pricing runs $5 for members and $15 for non-members, and the society participates in the Massachusetts Cultural Council's Card to Culture program, which provides free access to most programs.
The roulette night anchors a fall lineup that leans into the spooky season.
Ghost hunt in a 1715 house
Six days earlier, on Saturday, Sept. 19, the society is opening the Parson Barnard House at 179 Osgood St. for a paranormal investigation with professionals from Paranormal New England. Only 20 tickets will be sold.
The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a screening of "Ouija: Origin of Evil," the PG-13 horror film written and directed by Salem native Mike Flanagan. At 9 p.m., two groups of ten split between investigative sites inside the 311-year-old house, swapping after 45 minutes of spirit boarding and paranormal investigation. The event is a three-way partnership among the historical society, Paranormal New England and VCR2.
The Parson Barnard House was built by Rev. Thomas Barnard, who served as minister during the Salem Witch Trials. The house underwent interior restoration in 2024 and 2025, funded by a Community Preservation Act grant.
Free Revolution talk kicks off the month
The NAHS fall calendar opens Saturday, Sept. 12, with a free presentation, "1776's Patriots within Present Day Lawrence, Its People and Places," at Lawrence Heritage State Park, 1 Jackson St., Lawrence. The visitor center offers free admission and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
