A motorcyclist faces criminal charges after crashing in front of an Andover police officer on Monday, Aug. 24, one of several incidents that kept local responders busy throughout the day.
The officer witnessed the crash at the intersection of Woburn Street and Winterberry Lane shortly before 1:40 p.m. and immediately called for Andover Fire Rescue, according to Andover News, which compiled the incidents from public safety radio transmissions.
The rider complained of severe collarbone pain. Firefighters reported the motorcycle was leaking gasoline at the scene.
During transport to Lawrence General Hospital, the rider showed signs of altered mental status, prompting responders to arrange an advanced life support intercept en route.
Police requested a detective to photograph the motorcycle and roadway. An officer reported that the motorcycle's registration had been revoked for insurance and the rider did not have a motorcycle endorsement, which Massachusetts requires to legally operate a motorcycle.
A crash report will be filed along with criminal charges for operating without a motorcycle endorsement, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, speed violations and the revoked registration, according to radio transmissions.
6-year-old hurt in dirt bike crash on Dascomb Road
About 15 minutes before the motorcycle crash, Andover Fire Rescue responded to a Dascomb Road property where a 6-year-old boy reportedly crashed a dirt bike into a tractor.
The initial dispatch reported the child was complaining of leg pain. An ambulance, engine and ladder were sent to the scene.
The child declined transport.
No additional details about the circumstances or the extent of the boy's injuries were available from radio transmissions.
Domestic disturbance leads to arrest on Wall Street
Several Andover police officers responded to a Wall Street residence shortly after 7:30 p.m. after dispatch received an open-line call in which a man and woman could apparently be heard arguing.
Dispatch initially did not have a confirmed apartment number and worked to identify the parties and pinpoint the location.
Officers remained at the residence for about 40 minutes. Shortly after 8:10 p.m., one person was taken into custody, according to radio transmissions.
The identity of the person arrested and the specific charges were not transmitted clearly over the radio.
Other calls
A passing motorist contacted police Monday morning after spotting an elderly woman walking along South Main Street. The motorist picked up the woman, who was apparently trying to reach the Reading Transportation Center, and called police out of concern for her welfare. An officer met the pair; the woman declined to identify herself and declined medical assistance. Police determined there was no police issue, and the Good Samaritan agreed to take the woman to get coffee.
Separately, a woman visited the Andover Police station Monday afternoon seeking help locating an iPhone she believed she left at the YMCA. Location data pointed to a Chandler Road residence, and a dispute briefly developed over accusations the phone had been stolen. Radio transmissions indicated the phone may have been left on a vehicle, and police reported no further issue.
