Andover firefighters responded Thursday morning, Aug. 6, to a Kathleen Drive home after a report of furniture on fire. By the time crews arrived, the homeowner had already dragged the burning piece outside.

Firefighters determined an ottoman had been pushed too close to a gas fireplace, igniting the piece. Crews extinguished the smoldering furniture, shut off the gas supply and advised the homeowner to have the fireplace inspected by a technician before using it again, according to Andover MA News, which compiled the incidents from public safety radio transmissions. No injuries were reported.

Daycare evacuated on River Road

Children and staff at The Learning Experience daycare on River Road were evacuated that morning after a fire alarm sounded. Firefighters investigated and found the alarm had been accidentally triggered by workers at the building. No fire was present. Crews reset the system and allowed everyone back inside.

The Learning Experience at 161 River Road serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years.

Child transported after fall

Firefighters and paramedics responded Thursday evening to a Linda Road home after a 3-year-old fell and struck their head. Dispatchers reported the child was bleeding from the head.

Emergency crews evaluated the child on scene before transporting them to the hospital for further treatment. The child's condition and the hospital destination were not disclosed.

Welfare check confirms resident safe

Andover Police conducted a welfare check on Martingale Lane after a neighbor reported a front door had been left open all day. Officers contacted family members and confirmed the resident was safe and staying with relatives. They secured the home and cleared the call.
