Lightning struck three times at an Andover liquor store, where three separate Mass Cash tickets worth $100,000 each were sold on the same day.
The winning $1 tickets were purchased at Shawsheen Village Liquors, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery. The lottery has not released the purchase date or identified the winners.
Each ticket matched all five numbers in the daily Mass Cash drawing, giving three players the game’s top fixed prize.
Massachusetts Lottery retailers receive bonuses when they sell winning tickets. Retailers also earn commissions on lottery sales and prizes cashed at their stores.
The lottery has not confirmed the exact bonus Shawsheen Village Liquors will receive for the three wins. Under the lottery’s standard 1% grand prize bonus structure, the store would receive $1,000 for each winning ticket — potentially $3,000 total.
Mass Cash players choose five numbers from 1 through 35, with each ticket costing $1. The odds of hitting the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 324,632.
Unlike some jackpot games, the Mass Cash prize does not shrink when multiple people win. Every player who matches all five numbers receives the full $100,000 prize.
The lottery holds Mass Cash drawings twice daily at 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Shawsheen Village Liquors is located in Andover’s Shawsheen Village neighborhood and sells wine, beer, spirits and lottery products. The store has not publicly commented on the unusual streak of winning tickets.
Massachusetts lottery winners can choose to remain anonymous by claiming prizes through a trust. The lottery has not announced whether any of the three winners have claimed their prizes.
